Kendal United Colts Vs Kendal United 16 th September 2007

Colts Second Game of the season saw us up against the older Kendal United team. The emphasis before kick off was to make sure that we competed and did not let our heads go down as we were all disappointed with last weeks performance. A change of formation at last minute saw our new player Stefan Hall start due to a no show. Dan Wilson and Callum joined midfield to try and stop the bigger and stronger opposition.

We kicked off a few minutes late and with a strong wind with us as we won the toss. This in most cases should work in our favour however I do not know what happened but within 4 minutes we were 3-0 down. However everything I asked the colts to do they were now starting to do with Jack Butler linking well with Callum Clee on the right to release Kyle Hansen. Kyle ran towards goal and you just know when Kyle is one on one he is most likely to score which he did to give us some hope after 10 minutes 1-3 to United. Just a couple of minutes later Dan Wilson and Stefan Linked well to again set Kyle free and again Kyle obliged at the second attempt 2-3 United. Now there was real hope and united did not seem to be able to deal with us. However at this level Goal kicks do not get very far and it was not long before United capitalised on this by adding another three goals to their tally, with the added insult of Jordan Seddon getting injured bravely trying to save a certain goal. Kyle won a free kick about 25 years out and decided to take it himself. What a free kick it was he lifted his kick over the wall and into the far corner giving the United keeper no chance (what I fondly call a Robbie Warwick), not many hat tricks and goals of that calibre will be scored by even the top teams in our division. This gave us some hope going in at half time.

Half Time 3-6

The half time team talk was about making sure we kept the score respectable by playing our game and creating as many chances as possible while supporting each other in situations like the goal kicks and being on the right side of the striker to be able to defend it. It seems crazy but a goal kick is as dangerous as a corner at this level and needs to be used correctly (we will be training on this in the coming weeks) We believed that we could still win this game with some consistent play as Kyle was losing his marker at will now. However the second half, with the wind against us, went as the first and again we conceded goals from our own goal kicks. The game then got on top of us in all areas and United kept adding to their tally.

Final Score 3-13

Man of the Match

This was an easy one today I am sure everyone will agree Kyle Hansen was head and shoulders above everyone on both teams. His hat trick was an almost perfect one (right foot, Left foot and Free kick) just lacking a header a few more inches needed though I think. Well done Kyle a proud Dad and Manager today.

Kendal united Colts Vs Kendal united Dynamos (A) 09/09/07

Colts first game was against the other team of the same age this gave us a good chance to find out how tough the coming season was going to be.

Colts got off to a good start and seemed to be dealing with the Dynamos attacking flair well. However after 8 minutes Dynamos broke through well and gave Jordan no chance 1-0 to Dynamos. After the kick off we seemed to be a bit at sorts with ourselves and Dynamos quickly made it 2-0. Some last minute tackling and good link up play allowed us some hope; Dan Wilson was playing well down the left and causing all sorts of problems. Kyle was making some good penetrative runs and could of scored if not for the impressive Dynamos Keeper. However as often happens at his level Dynamos broke free from one of our attacks and scored to make it 3-0. Another scrappy goal just before half time made it 4-0 at the break.

Half time 4-0 to Dynamos.

The half time talk was about not giving the Dynamo players any time on the ball and try and bring in the wingers to use Callum and Dan Wilson’s Skill to break through the Dynamo defence and hopefully release Kyle with his pace. Two more Dynamo goals in quick succession saw the Colts deflated and concentration dropped however the impressive Dan Wilson broke free and won the ball well playing a good ball into the middle to Joel to lay in front of Kyle who just miss timed his shot but Dan Cook picked the ball up well and calmly lobbed the keeper from 18 yards an excellent goal all round, 6-1 to Dynamos. It seemed from here that Colts started to struggle with the length of the game and pitch size yet Dynamos seemed to get stronger and the goals started to clock up for the Dynamos ending in a 12-1 defeat.

Man of the match

This was a difficult one with a few players standing out including Captain Kyle constantly giving his all for the team and Dan Wilson with his defending and mazy runs but the man of the match today has to go to Tom Norton for his never say die attitude excellent defending and reading of the game. Tom is going to be a massive asset to this team so well done Tom.

Well done to everyone today but I hope you all keep your heads up high and do not get too disheartened. If you learn to lose like champions you win like true champions.

Thanks to Eric for running the line and Julie for sorting the kit this week and a big thank you to everyone that supports us every week.
