Geoff's News

13th September

For the second season running we started at Milnthorpe, where this year we had games against Grange and Heathwaitea. Both matches ended in a 3 – 0 victories for Kendal United with Bret netting a hat trick against Grange and two more against Heathwaite A. The final goal came from a penalty by Jack finishing the scoring. A good start to the season. Kendal United’s team: Joshua Shorrock, Jack Smith, Sam Tattersall, Zak Reid, Paul Rowlinson, Louis Ready, Brett Walker and Ben Azary.

27th September

We made our first ever start to Burneside for games against Kirkby Lonsdale Colts & Swarthmoor. After a very evenly balanced first half ending 0-0 Kendal United came out for the second half ready for business. After a very action packed half the score ended 4 – 0 with goals from Louis, Brett and 2 from Paul. The second game resulted in a 6-0 win for Kendal v Swarthmoor. We changed formation-bringing Jack upfront from his usual defensive role. He enjoyed the move scoring twice. Further goals came from Brett(who collected his second hat trick of the seasons) and the sixth goal was a unfortunate own goal from a Swarthmoor defender. Kendal United’s team: Joshua Shorrock, Jack Smith, Sam Tattersall, Zak Reid, Paul Rowlinson, Louis Ready, Brett Walker and Ben Azary.

12th October

This was going to be a free week but at the last minute we got called up due to Wattsfield pulling out of the league. Unfortunately due to severe rain the match was cancelled.

18th October

Kevin arranged for Kirkby Lonsdale Colts to visit us for a friendly. A game we played at our training ground at Castle Park School. We played 7 a side with 15 minutes each way. The weather was cold and wet so we had roll on roll of subs to keep the boys warm. Josh was away on holiday so Paul played in goals for the first half and jack for the second. This was another very tough game against a very good team. Kendal scored two very quick goals in the first 3 minutes both by Brett (we caught them cold) Final score 2 – 0. Kendal United’s team: Jack Smith, Sam Tattersall, Zak Reid, Paul Rowlinson, Louis Ready, Brett Walker and Ben Azary.
1st November
Kirkby Lonsdale another new venue to play Milnthorpe Town & Burneside. Milnthorpe proved to be a very tough nut to crack with the score ending 0-0. Our cause was not helped when after 2 minutes Brett took a nasty kick to the knee leaving him unable to continue. Our game against Burneside we came off winners a great scoreline 6 – 0. Two goals came from Paul, Louis and George all of which where looking for a hattrick. Kendal United’s team: Joshua Shorrock, Patrick O’Reilly, George Purcell, Sam Tattersall, Zak Reid, Paul Rowlinson, Louis Ready and Brett Walker.

15th November

Our first visit to Kirkby Stephen for games against Burneside (again) & Ibis. After beating Burneside two weeks ago we reshuffled the pack to see how the boys would cope. We needn’t have worried after a shaky start the first half ended with us 5 – 0 up. Four goals coming from Patrick and o
ne from George. Brett came on for the second half and scored yet another hat trick, his third of the season. The final score 8 – 0. Ibis proved to be a very physical but our team came to hold their own with two goals each for Brett & Paul and one for George. The was some great saves from Josh to keep our record of no goals conceded. I wonder how long it will be before he is beaten. Kendal United’s team: Joshua Shorrock, Jack Smith, Patrick O’Reilly, Sam Tattersall, Zak Reid, Paul Rowlinson, Louis Ready, Brett Walker and Ben Azary.

24 January 2009

We travelled to Cartmell anouther new venue for us for games Swarthmoor and Ibis our team today Joshua Shorrock Sam Tattersall Jack Smith Zak Reid Paul Rowlinson Louis Ready Brett Walker Ben Azary George Purcell Patrick O Reilly.Kendal United 4 swarthmoor 1 goals came from Brett who got 2 Paul and Jack. For the first time in the league we played 7 a side this was a good exercise and gave us a chance to se how the boys coped with a midfield as well as a defence. The boys seemed to forget what there roles were, hence we conceded for the first time, a lapse in defence and poor Patrick found the ball deflecting of him dispite a great attempt by Josh the ball ended up in the back of the net. Kendal United 5 Ibis 1 all the goals came in a exciting first half. Goals came from Brett with anouther 2 Zak with 2[his first of the season]and Patrick[with a cheeky lob from outside the box]. Ibis goal came from another mix up in defence[we were playing 7 a side again]some thing for us to work on. Ibis toughened up there midfield for the second half making them a hard nut to crack not for the lack of trying.

March 1

We visited kirkby lonsdale for the second time this season for games against kby lonsdale and kby stephen we played 6 a side in both games already played kby lonsdale twice [1 a freindly] we knew they would be difficult opponents this proved to be true.We lost 1 0 our first defeat for 9 months it was a very evenly contested game the only goal came from a shot which josh managed to get his hands to only to se the ball spin out of his hands. The whole team played well with some good passing moves the defenders were back to there organised best ,sam even made a good defensive header nice to se [the lads do not head the ball very often]. Zak had a couple of chances with breakaway runs only to find his shots sneak past the wrong side of the post.Louis on as a second half substitute found him self on the wrong end of a hard but fair tackle and had to come off again after about 4 minutes he bravely went back on even though his ankle was very sore. Against kby stephen who we were playing for the first time we found our selves 4 0 up at half time with 2 goals from brett both coming from great crosses by zak,ben also found him self on the score sheet for the first time with a well taken shot, our forth goal came from zak with a nifty bit of footwork there were no more goals for us in the second half not for the lack of trying the only blip was a kby shot which spun out of josh's hands. Todays team was Joshua Shorrock Jack Smith Sam Tattersall Zak Ried Paul Rowlinson Louis Ready Brett Walker Ben Azary George Purcell and Patrick O'Reilly. We have a home fixture next week what a shock only ever having had one which was early on last season .
