Kendal United FC are one of the oldest established clubs in the county, FA historic records show them winning trophies as far back as 1955 but it is thought that the club was formed much sooner than this (research still ongoing).
During the 1990s although still successful on the pitch the club struggled with player recruitment mainly due to the lack of a feeder system or natural catchment pool of players, in order to address this in 2000 the manager Tim Pryor started a mini soccer team comprising of 10 players and moved away from senior team management.
Unfortunately in 2001 the Kendal United senior side folded but the juniors were gaining momentum and at this point Sue & Ian Postelthwaite Joined the club, shortly followed by Sean Cafferty. The club entered two sides into the Kent Valley League from which we have now grown.
With the help of these volunteers the club has go from strength to strength, Sean aided the club with sponsorship from Atlantis Kitchens and with the help of this and donations from TP Broomby & Russell Armer. Grants from Kendal town Council Neighbourhood forum, Cumbria County Council and sports for all has help us patch up the old dressing rooms, replace the perimeter fence, create two new mini soccer pitches and purchase premiership standard goalposts.
We now have at least one team in each year group and some more than that, approaching 150 children. The 2005/06 season also saw the resurrection of the senior team being entered in to the Westmorland league and the club applying for FA Charter Standard Club status.
With the fast growth of the club and priority repairs to the ground, work on the changing facilities, which are a wooden construction and have been in place since the mid 1950s has been restricted to patching up. The low point in coping with our facilities came when somebody sat on the loo in our changing hut and the loo fell through the floor. This gives us a major problem which threatens to undo all the hard work of the past 6 years, the hut is close to being condemned which would mean the end of Kendal United as a viable football club. We cannot allow this to happen hence the current fundraising campaign.
Tim Pryor
Chairman.
